|Cray Valley (PM)||2|
Woodstock reacted in a positive way following their previous weeks debacle at Ringmer with a convincing win over Cray Valley.
Cray possibly had the better of the first 15 minutes, although the game was fairly scrappy with no side able to keep the ball. On 5 minutes a long range effort from Cray clipped the post but rebounded away. Woodstock seemed to pick up a second gear and Joe Sands was causing problems to the visiting defence, and a foul on him after 22 minutes brought the first goal when the resultant free kick caused problems in the Cray box and James McDonald tucked the ball home. The rest of the half then became a bit of a one man show.
On 27 minutes Tony Clark refusal to give up saw him head to ball from the by line back into the box where McDonald was on hand to head the ball home, two minutes later a long ball was dropped by the visiting keeper and McDonald tapped home his hat trick. Sports continued to dominate and it was no surprise when McDonald crashed home a shot from the edge of the box for his and Woodstock’s fourth.
Cray’s attempted to get back into the game but Sports defence, well organised by Ben Taylor, controlled the game and Sports looked the more likely to score. Sports finally did so on 76 minutes when Ben Taylor headed home from a corner.
Sports continued to keep control and were disappointed to ship two late goals, firstly on 88 minutes when sub keeper Nick Shaw saved the first effort but could not keep out the follow up, and then in added time a Cray forward hit home a long range effort.
