Report

Woodstock progressed to the next round of the Kent Senior Trophy with a comfortable win at Kent Invicta League side Rusthall. It was important to get off to a good start and Sports certainly did that as firstly James McDonald was set free but his shot was blocked by the keeper but within a minute they took the lead when George Blake cracked home a great shot from outside of the Box.

Despite taking an early lead Woodstock never really got total control on the game, although a uneven pitch and slippery top didn’t help the situation, despite this Rusthall never created a clear chance whilst Sports final ball was letting them down, however on 38 minutes a great cross ball from Bradley King found Ashley Baverstock in the box and he coolly volleyed over the keeper to double the lead.

With the slope in their favour Rusthall came out more determined and forced Sports back, but the central pair of Frazer Rogers and Russel Jeffrey were in determined mood and kept them at a distance. When on 57 minutes sub Joe Sands broke and crashed a great shot home the win seemed ensured. Sports looked to increase but on 62 minutes a series of errors set up Rusthall for a simply goal and raised their sprits. As Rusthall pushed on they were more open at the back and on 70 minutes another shot from Blake was spilled by the keeper and Baverstock was on hand to slot home the rebound.

To there credit Rusthall kept going and perhaps could have had a penalty in the last few minutes but the referee ruled in Sports favour and minutes later he blew the final whistle to set sports up for the next round when they travel to Beckenham.
